More of a gory art experiment than a coherent movie, "Maniac" is watchable (when you're not squirming away from the gore) but ultimately uninteresting and unstimulating.
The second murder in Maniac, shot, like the rest of the film, almost entirely from the point of view of the killer, Frank Zito (Elijah Wood), goes like this: we see him meet Lucie, a girl (Megan Duffy) he’s picked up through a dating site. 2013 moves the action from New York to Los Angeles and that move seems to hurt the film as well. The problem with this film is that it tried to be more than what it is.
